Hood cowl lacing thinkness ?

Hi Guy's

Installed the cowl lacing on my 30 coupe...It looked kinda of thick ( 1/2" ) compaired to what I removed ( 1/4 to 5/16" )..This I got from "Rick's" long ago & am just putting it on now...

I did a trial fit of the hood and it seem's to sit up alittle high from the tank...I'am thinking it should be the same height.. Who know's what "Rick's" sold year's ago ??

The lacing I had way back was from the old Ford Obsolete in Long Beach (Cal.) maybe that was too thin ? Anyway does anybody know how think the lacing should be ?.

Don't want to go any further as it doesn't look right to me..

Thank's in advance

I believe there is better stuff from SOME sources today than in years past. About 30 years ago all I found on the market was a little too thick, but more importantly too firm and too wide. To get it to "sit down" you had to whack the heck out of it with a mallet so it would conform to the trough on the tank and cowl.

I just checked original bottom end scraps off a couple different cars. They look to be closer to 3/8". HOWEVER, looking at it closely it appears that prior to installation it may have been 1/2" round. If so, it would mean it was able to conform to some extent. I'd sure like to see the original drawings for that piece!
