Hood alignment

Hey Guys,
The only thing I dread when pulling the head etc. is having to put the hood back on. My radiator shell has about 1" clearance above the tank and I can see about 1/2" of the tank below the shell looking from the front. I can't get the bottom of the hood any closer than about 1" at the firewall. I't a repro. rad. shell and I'm wondering if the hole is too small not allowing it to drop down far enough for the hood to align. I've even shimmed up the front of the body but not much help.
Any Suggestions would be appreciated
Pete

Is your frame straight? Most alignment problems can be fixed by straightning the frame. If you've thought about taking the body off the frame for any reason this might be the time to do it.

I would say its the RE-POP shell.. Find an original shell, condition plating wise is not important & try it.. Also have you checked the radiator size against an original ?? that also can make a BIG difference as to the fit of all of it...

Pretty sure frame is straight. Everything else lines up. Rad. is definately a 28-29 but the shell only seats about half way down the filler. All holes line up on the shell and rad. is seated properly on frame but the whole assembly seems too high.About 1" all the way around at bottom between hood and frame.
