home made wood

Silversink, go for it. I milled all of the wood for my '30 Briggs Fordor including the door wood which is harder than the rest of the car. I used clear, aged maple. It is much easier to drive nails into. On lower portions of the car, I treated it with anti-rotting/insect formula and then painted it with either black paint or marine varnish. The upper pieces I just treated with marine varnish. Don't be timid, and patience is a virtue! btw, I live just east of Portland, so if you want to send a PM feel free. I haven't upholstered my Fordor body yet, so you would be welcome to take a look if you like.

I floor all my trailers with ash. This ones five years old. One coat of thompsons. And has held up great. Ash will stand up to just about anything.
