Well,
I just went through all this. So you can short cut through many of my headaches. I used a very stiff power valve almost to the point of not being one. Find the stiffest one you can or just drop out the diaphram and solder one up. The replacement plugs have a tendancy to leak. I used 48 Jets, an original brass needle and seat, and accelerator pump with the leather on it. Don't use a rubber tipped needle, or a vitron disc one. They will either leak or stick. If you have a questionable old needle and seat you can use some fine valve grinding paste and re-seat it if it's not too bad. Make sure and clean it very well after doing this. Perform this operation out of the carb. The accelerator pump is really important without the power valve action. If it's an old leather one be sure and massage it to soft before you put it in. Start buying 94's, it took almost 10 carbs worth of parts to make mine the one I wanted. Most are for sale for a reason, but through this process you'll wind up with good original Ford equipment.
I have the same set-up you do even down to the B cam, the car runs better than ever before and starts immediately.
Here is what I found
46-48 Jets
Good old style float needle and seat
LEather accelerator pump, or a good working type
I use an electric fuel pump at 2.5 LBS
Also Pat in Santa Cruz had alot to do with my success in this matter and I would be remiss without mentioning that.
Good Luck,
Tim
