Holley 4000 fuel or float level

Can anyone tell me what the orrect fuel or float level is for my '54 Merc Holley 4000 carb? If I set the float at 1/4 " below the top surface, the fuel level is about 3/8". To get the fuel level down to 1/2 ", the float will be down to around 3/8. Which is correct?? Also the drivers side idle mixture screw adjustment likes around 3/4 turn out while the pass. side likes almost two turns out ??? Please help. Thanks : Bruce
 
Not sure what you are saying about fuel level. But if you set the flout about level front to rear it will be close. I have all the old gauges but not sure which is which now. Ck your adj screws to be sure someone has not screwed them in to far and done damage also double ck the passage. Bill
 
So, how did things turn out with you idle mixture screw issue after we talked on the phone earlier this week ?
