Holley 2300 on FE 360 help

Howdy!

So, I acquired a Holley 2300 that I rebuilt with 61 jets, replaced the 2 stage power valve with a single stage, installed a manual choke kit and put it on my 55 F600 with a 360.

It won't idle for diddly squat. I tried bench setting the idle mixture screws, and it would hardly idle. After turning the screws in all the way it FINALLY idled somewhat normally but it's clear that the mixture is extremely lean. I could barely drive it into the garage to work on it - I had to flutter the gas and clutch to get it in the door.

Any ideas what I should do to solve this little problem? I had a autolite 2bbl on it before and it was flooding and I actually prefer holley. If I can't get it to work, I might just put a pressure regulator on the autolite but I would rather not.

Thanks in advance.

holleys have lots of problems, one is the metering blocks won't seal properly against the body. This happens when the main body surface becomes warped because the bowl retainer bolts have been overtightened. When this happens the idle circuit sucks fuel past the gasket. Sometimes you can get lucky and "mill" this surface on the main body with 220 or finer emery against a flat piece of glass. Also, make sure you used the correct gasket under the p valve, and even tho it's new, it could still leak. What size p valve are you using, I would think a 6.5 would be in the ballpark. I have seen many of the new replacements(import) that leaked right out of the box If this is a 300 cfm or less size carb, the 60 to 63 holley size(not drill size) jet would be a good starting point. My advice is to go back to a 2100 autolite, find an original from a 65-67 F series 352 with a factory hand choke
