Hogshead 6 vs V8

The T98 half bell is marked T8D-1 1/2A inside the same place the T9 half bell is marked 01T-7505. The bore diameter in the T98 half bell for the bearing retainer is 4 7/8" and the bore diameter for the bearing retainer in the T9 half bell is 4 3/4". I don't know if the bore diameter will make any difference for use on another transmission, I just wanted to mention it if it does.

There is also a half bell for the "G" six that is unique to that engine, but it is probably less common than the T98.

I'm actually doing it on a 3-sp with integral hogshead, not seeing any way to get a clear shot at it. I got it started out with a C-clamp and a custom-modified socket.

We may have a confusion of terms here. I believe what you are referring to as "half-bell" is the same as we were calling a "hogshead" correct? The reason I bring this up is some of us also call the adapter between the block and the hogshead a "half-bell" so it can become a little confusing (and this assumes I am following this correctly!).

I think I still have a couple of the hogsheads, what are they worth?[/QUOTE]

They have been going for between $100 and $150 on ebay. No idea what you can get them for at say a swapmeet, but that is the ebay price range.

Yes, the transmission half bell or hoghead as you call it. I would call the other piece the engine half bell. Sorry for the confusion.
