Hinge bolts

I have a 1939 Pickup. The bolts that hold the hood to the hinge are regular 1/4 - 28 bolts. I bought 1/4 - 28 shoulder bolts intended for all cars and pickups and the shoulder is too large to fit in the hole in the hinge. Is there a smaller shoulder bolt for the pickups? I really don't want to drill out the hinge hole.

You have been sold the wrong bolts. There is no shoulder on a 37-40 hood hinge bolt. The pivot shoulder is part of the hood mount section. If you have a hood hinge bolt with a shoulder it is for a 41-48. Attempting to install these will put a nice divot in the paint of your hood.
