Hidem Welting

I am particularly interested in finding out if there are any special tricks when using the wire-on welting that is supplied with the roofing kits that are sold by Snyders and Brattons. This is the same welting that is sold separately by Snyders as part number A-47304.

Does it really stick together in the closed position, for example? Also, shouldn't some sealant be used with it? Thanks.

I can't help much. There was a discussion about this type of welting a while back. I don't know how it stays closed after it is bent over. I have some and it doesn't want to stay closed very well. I know Bill Strum uses this type of welting on the fine point cars he does. I believe he makes his own welting, so it might be made differently than the welting vendors sell.

The type used on the cabriolet was designed to have an offset for the nail point called locktite I believe.

So the nail point on the cabriolet was up higher and the welting covered more lower. This type had a habit of flipping up and needed some glue to help it so I am told.

The normal kind is nailed in the center and does not need glue, so I am told.

I have no experience working with them. I do know you would have to make your Loctite binding. The other type is manufactured currently and is common.

I know Sturm custom made the locktite type binding for a couple of jobs. The leftover was bought and was used on a high points cabriolet. It is a real pain to make.

LeBarron Bonney has a video on their site that shows a procedure how to install the Hidem welting . Norm
