I have initially fit the top material to the bows (open pickup) using staples. I am concerned about the next step involving the hidem welt.
1. should I now go around, pull the material taut using the excess material, tack the hidem welt over the staples, and then attempt to cut the excess material up under the hidem (seems this would be hard to do)
OR
2. should I pull the material taut, replace staples with carpet tacks, cut excess material off close to the tacks, then tack the hidem welt.
My concern in cutting the excess material off too soon is not being able to pull the wrinkles out of the overall top as I place the hidem.
