Hershey On the Positive Side

After reading these posts I see that I have been all wrong. Need to go to Hershey next year.

Last year my Mother-in-Law was dying from cancer this year I have been dealing with cancer myself and the treatments have made it very hard to walk......partial paralysis in my legs.... they tell me I'll be back to normal in 6 months so Hershey 2017 here I come:)

Good for U. Have a quick and full recovery...

Half the fun of any swap meet is the "hunt". I cant speak for Hershey but IOLA has its known year after year pockets of A parts but its the random guys that come to sell off "dads stuff" or "restoration leftovers" or "get this cr** out of my garage" that are sprinkled around that are the best buys and exciting to come across them. Makes it that much more exciting (maybe not so much for the wallet) not knowing whats around the corner. Half the game is do I buy it now or will it be there when I come back (if I can find it).

I need to start plotting GPS coordinates in with notes so I can get back to certain swap spots efficiently.

Hershey was awesome again as usual! I looked at my iPhone "Health" app and it says I walked 25 miles Wednesday-Friday. I found lots of things that I usually am looking for on eBay and got some great deals. I ran into a few FordBarn folks and was delighted to meet them in person.

I'm a younger guy (40) and got a lot of "What kind of Rat Rod are you working on" as I'm looking at their parts (I hate rat rods) or dismissed a lot by the older guys as not seeming to have enough money to buy their $60 part, or that I can't possibly know anything about what I'm holding because I'm not 80 so that was a little frustrating, but I was there for the parts and the sunshine and to be a part of the best swap meet on the planet, so I was very happy!

I see the parts sniping going on in the smaller swaps as well, vendors getting there grabbing up all the cheap parts and then opening up their tables with the parts they just bought. no getting around this I guess.

Thanks man I appreciate it. Never been sick before or hospitals or Doctors or such, and I sure sympathize now with people going thru these things it's tough. I really had no idea, it's pretty humbling. Had a diffuse B-cell Lymphoma, used to be fatal but now they can help you. A lot.

Came on pretty fast had a backache and shrugged it off. Put off going to the doctor until the pain was unbearable. Jan. 1st the tests came back, and they only gave me two weeks to live but a miracle from God Almighty turned it around.

Good news is they tell me they can treat these things a lot better now, than even three or four years ago, they are making progress. Dr. told me new things are coming out constantly. Ya have to fight and keep up a good attitude.

In remission now. I don't go back up to Chicago until next spring for a checkup.

Keep up with your health don't put stuff off like I did!

This year was a wash as far as old car activities but will get better. 2017 should be good:) Can't wait!!

I'm 26 I've been going with friends since I was 19, I save my pennies all year to just to blow it all for this swap. It's one of my favorite places in the world. I started with parts for my 65' Chevelle and now I'm building a Ford Steel 30 Roadster and spent All of Wed/Thursday looking for windshield parts. Then I stumbled on the Hagerty Insurance Group that was building a car on site for the second year, I offered a hand since they were wrenching a 30 Fordor and have a good idea of the parts they'd need/where they were. They said "no thanks" but Handed me a pair of no good to them Lower window Stanchions for My car! I went and picked them up a Case of yuengling as thanks.

There's really 2 types of people there I think-those trying for Hard for a buck and those that really love the Hobby. I would much rather give my spare parts away as well than watch them go to waste. I find if you really talk to people they are more understanding on prices.

There are some old guys that love seeing the young guns there-and there are those that take advantage of it. I usually have a darn' good idea of what the parts I'm looking for are worth and what I am willing to pay because when you don't know is when you get had.

I stumbled on a set of A' Shocks and really I had no idea their worth. But I forgot I needed when I wrote my grocery list so I up and bought them on the spot. I went home and found many better sets than I got for half. But that was my own Naivete.

The rat rod thing. That's something I loved when I was 17. But I've come to better appreciate craftsmanship in a car-throwing random crap on a car is not my thing. That said I've been building what I call a "period hot rod" its basically got no part newer than what you could find in 1955. The paints not perfect, but it has taken a lot of time to find and get it to how I like.

People call it a Rat Rod all the time and it irks me' to no end-mostly those who are not in the know. But it's all metal, and all research to get it done right.

So if anyone knows where to get a set of original Rams head mounts for a roadster for less than Brookvilles nutty price...
