Hershey Feedback

It was another great one IMHO. Lots of great cars for sale on the cheap. Saw about 3-4 really, really nice '28-'29 Model A Phaetons (sp?) for sale. Most VERY presentable and under $20K. Maybe a little lighter than previous years, but still a great show.

I agree that you just got to look around and take your time. Still some treasures to be found for those willing to look.

See you all next year.

Was a good meet Tim but like you said ya gotta look in the junk boxes for the good stuff, its there if you spend the time looking. Crowd was down, and the $$ too. but was good but not like other yrs. ken ct.

I registered the black 39 convertible I just finished, had it cleaned up ready to go and my back gave out. It took a half hour late yesterday to get from the truck and up 20 steps to the house. Could hardly walk and didn't get much sleep. Wasn't much better this morning so I was afraid to take a chance. Rested all day and I can walk slowly with a big stick. Talked to a friend about 12:30 at the show and he said there were more people there than he has ever seen. G.M.

I was on the grounds Monday thru Friday night. Found a lot of good treasure and sold a few parts to pay for the trip.
I still walk most of it but my 65 year old legs don't like it much. How could there ever be a BAD Hershey???
More and more businesses stopped selling at Hershey and only take orders. PA tax drives them out.
I wish that guy would learn the words to "The Auctioneer" instead of mumbling them.........

Was there Friday.Perfect weather and found some good stuff for the 42 Deluxe coupe including the correct radio block off plate I've been looking for years for. Friend walking with me bought a 37 front fender for $125 and I thought that was
reasonable as heck as it was in great condition.Still some dreamers but much that
could be bought worth the money or better in my opinion.....

Prices seemed to be all over the place, but I scored an original Ford "Green Bible", which appears to never have been used, for $75.00 ! I found most everything I had on my "wish list" and I thought there was a ton of early Ford parts there.

I found a pair of EAC Mercury heads ready to install for $80. But I could not recall the conversation on Fordbarn about them if they would work on an 8BA as the Mercs had a 4" stroke, so I settled for a set of EAB's. I missed having the ability to go to the computer and and research this. I should have been better prepared.

I saw a beautifully restored T Touring for $8900. It had been someone's pride and joy. Do you soppose my grandson in his day will see a restored `39 Deluxe Coupe for less than 10 grand?

The one that was a real shocker was a two door Model A Phaeton fot $42,000. My neighbor bought one for $75 out of a junkyard and we played with it all summer. The car was in excellent condition with no top..

I was there for the whole week and thought it was great. As noted prices were all over the map. I probably got through 2/3 rds of the show. If you stop to look at stuff, stop to talk with friends and sit around some with the guys you came with, you just can't see it all. This is only my third year going, but there isn't another swap meet that can come close to this. I could go to meets hear in Wisconsin for 10 years and not see half the stuff I see at Hershey. The end always comes too soon.

My Favorite thing this year, was as I was packing up my stuff, A older gentlemen was riding around on his electric wheelchair with a hand written sign on it that said "Wanted 1932 Ford side mount spare tire bracket". Apparently friday was the only day he showed up. His 50-60 year old son was giving him grief for making a big ugly sign and that it would not find him his part. I had only 3 or 4 parts left to pack up and one was a 32 Ford side mount bracket. I walked out and handed it to the guy as he passed by and sold it to him at a very very cheap price. Never seen a guy so happy and his son had to hear a mouthful of words because that ugly sign found him his parts at the last few minutes of hershey.

Michael,

Great story! Sorry I had to leave early and miss it in person.

Thanks for all of your help. You're a great parts finder.

As a parts buyer and spectator I had my usual good time. I found the off-set fender stainless trim bolts for my 48 Merc. None of the usual Ford vendors I buy from sell those bolts. Larry Shinoda's 183 mph 32 coupe was on display with the race cars. Not too shabby considering it was powered by a 4 deuce flathead. And the other show cars...what to say IT IS HERSHEY.

I agree crowd was down and not spending as much as other yrs. but good non the less .Not great but ok for the times.Weather was great. ken ct. Thanks Clem. + Chuck.
Good to see you Ken, thanks for babysitting my new 41 truck trans. Had to buy a hand truck for $7 to haul it out. Was well worth it for a $75 trans in good shape.Bought some other stuff but trans was a score. Can;t Waite for next yr.

Got home sat. evening. went down on tuesday. If you want to do the flea market tuesday to friday is when you need to be there. Friday afternoon most venders pack up. the car show on Sat. was good. Saw some Fordbarn guys and stoped by to see Charlie S. up by the stadium. Never saw Clem he must have been sorrounded by woman? Had a great time. Lots of empty vender spaces. The :PA tax dept can be thanked for that. They ran Bob Drake out and I saw them giving a V-8 vender a hard time. Got to love our government. Several years ago the N.Y. tax masters ran the H C C A out of our Rhinebeck NY gathering, swap meet and show. I am working on trying to get them back as Rhinebeck is such a wonderful venu. We are trying to get legislation pased for casual sales to be exempt.
Getting baqck to Hershey I spent money that I did not need to spend and baught home some more junk!! That I don't need. Go figure!!!

I sold several things for "realistic" prices considering the economy right now and several vendors were doing the same. Found lots of NOS pieces for my current '47 Bus. Coupe restoration. Had a great time and made several new friends as well as meeting fellow Barner's. Walked every row of every field (some several times). Not as crowded in the flea market as years past but the show on Sat. was very well attended. Sore legs and feet but can't wait till next year!

For those who are curious, My pedometer records about 30 miles of walking at Hershey. Most of it is Thursday-Friday. You have to be in good shape and a little crazy to walk all of it. All of those years running 10 plus miles a day are paying off for me now.

Sold nearly everything I took, ran out and happily spent it all and more. Endless neat stuff, not nearly enough time to examine all the hardware and pump all the experts for information!

Hershey is great if you go on a weekday, last year I went on Saturday and everyone was packed up by lunch. Called off work ad went Friday this year and walked the entire show field. I guess you just have to prioritize car parts or work.

I used to go on Saturday only due to job, children, etc. and the pickings were pretty good...in the last couple of years Saturday has been nearly useless for parts hunting, and this year the fleamarket was nearly a desert by mid morning. I did sell a thing or two though...and I was annoyed to find the root beer float wagon was long gone!
