Henry Ford Video Stamping First Model A

Great clip !! I wonder if they decided to stamp any other marks, such as the "Star" on the first engine, after the fact, or was it just left as number "1"?

I've seen the stills from that event before but never the video. I have to wonder if that wasn't a staged "photo op" since the earliest blocks have the low engine number pad protruding up from the water inlet boss. Looking closely at the pad shown in the video, it does seem to be fairly short in length so it could well be one of those 2 1/2" pads (mid to late December 27) that Pluck has been looking for. The only other explanation would be if it were an early prototype casting or maybe a block from a pre-production test run of castings.... The only thing for sure is that we'll never know for sure, but it's still a really cool piece of Ford history. Thanks for posting it!

I wonder just how much more "video" the "US GOVERNMENT ARCHIVES" (National Archives) has of the Model A/AA Ford and its production?

I would wager to bet that this is one "ARCHIVE" that has not even been tapped by us! For film and historical data concerning the Model A/AA Ford.

Did you notice, I THINK, just how smooth the engine number pad is AND at the very end of the video you see the second generation front bumpers (the closed-end bumpers)...you have to have a quick watchful eye for this.

I noticed the machined engine number pad, and also noticed that while there was a hose connected to the water inlet in the side of the block, there was no outlet, but a plate where it would be, so the head could be tightened down.

Thanks for posting!
Last year, a 2 reel film was purchased with a trailer load of Model A parts from western North Dakota. (Two friends and I made the purchase.) The film was developed in 1927 and we think it was used as an introduction of the new A to Ford dealers and their customers. The film shows all the very early features of the new Ford, open bumpers ends, left hand brake, multi piece break equalizer ...I'm sure there were more that I did not spot.

Parts of the same vidieo clip you have referred to are included in the film. I transferred as much of the film content (23min) to disc as was recoverable...we plan to show it at our upcoming Twin Cities Ford Model A Club, technical clinic later this month.

Good Day!
