Hello ford barners just when you get comfortable..........Car overheated when it cooled down could not start it ........towed home.......let it sit a while and think about it's sins..........went out and checked the torque on head bolts......wow needed retorqeing .......I had an engine rebuild and ran though a few heat cycles and retoqued the head 3 times.......then went on a long ride and had the overheating problem......now retoqued it started fine ran ok.........but it needed water tried to fill the radiator but couldnot as the water was draining out the carberator down the splash pan............is it a blown head gasket or something worse!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yes, possibly something worse such as the dreaded crack in the block. Pull the manifolds first and take a look-see in the intake ports of the block to get an idea of where the leak is located. Next it is as the French would say, "off with the head"! Examine the head, head gasket surfaces and the block closely for cracks. Look down around, in, and under the appropriate intake valve seat.

Best of luck there...

John

I would start with the head, you are going to need a new gasket anyway. Do you have the right gasket for the head you are using?

When this happened to me last year, I first found the manifolds full of water. Took the head off and found the block cracked between a couple of valves. Only had 50 miles on that engine since it's last major repair.

Are you running water or anti-freeze mix ?

If antifreeze, drain the crankcase, replace the plug, pull the dizzy and pour a couple quarts of kerosene down the dizzy hole, spin the engine over with the starter several times to flush the bearings, then let sit a while, then dump the kero.

Anti-freeze mix will destroy babbitt in the bearings. Best to check and get it out of there, then proceed with diagnostics.

I agree that you are going to need to pull the head. At the very least, you blew a head gasket. Might as well get it off of there.

Thanks to all .......I know what it can be but denial is not just a river in Egypt......just needed to vent at my own stupidity........bobbycoke

Blown head gasket at #1 cyl by intake valve sory it took so long but was away on bu$$niss.....

Thanks for the update. You got out of this one lightly. My first thought was "cracked block". I check the tension on the head studs at every service.
