Help to slow down a 31 AA, rear or trans?

I have a late 31 AA dump that still works on the farm and would like to gear it down slower (it doesn't see the road). It has the 5.14 rear axle (as ID by speedo drive). My questions are:

1) Is it easy to install a 28-29 worm drive rear? Do they just bolt in?

2) Are the rear axles with the 6.6 readily available and is the swap easy?

3) Anyone have detailed instructions or a kit to install a dual high behind the 4 speed?

Any other suggestions?

You could probably find someone who would be willing to switch a low gear rear end with you. Where are you located?

I have a low speed rear off of a late 31 AA FIRE TRUCK ! i will swap out if you want it, I live 30 south of Phila. Pa.
 
That's funny, not too far from me. I may have a rear end with low speed gears, but I would have to check.

It's a first for me also. I would think granny gear in the 4 speed truck ****** would be low enough for anything.

I'm not sure what would be the easiest way to git it lower, but the swap with Mike should be good.
 
you could always let some air out of the tires, that will slow it down and avoid a massive mechanical swap-out

Or put a governor on it
 
We have a lot of hills here in New England. I use it for a lot of reasons, but all are off-road. It doesn't have a cab just a cowl and probably will never be used on the road, but who knows. It can really tax the truck when loaded with firewood, gravel or piled high with brush and driving in the forest squeezing between trees and up steep hills, over rocks and gullies. For this, 3rd and 4th gears are not usable. For a 83 year old working truck, I prefer to go as slow as possible. The AA truck has a lot of advantages with the mechanical brakes, gravity fuel pump and simple construction. It may sit for months without use, so there is a lot less to go wrong. It tends to go where my military Dodge M37 pickup can't go if left in 2 wheel drive. It amazes me with it's abilities.
