So we had a big car show event this weekend. I had a magnetic sign made for the MA truck. Said the name of our farm. Left them on both doors most of the day. Took the signs off that evening, and they really left a bad film or something on the black paint. It's hard to explain, you can't feel it, but it almost looks like condensation or something like that. Tried waxes, compounds but it is not buffing out. Anyone else have this happen?any suggestions on how or what I could put on it to buff out?

I'm sick, it looks awful.

My sign guy told me to wax the surface the sign is going on, let the wax haze over then put the sign on, do not rub off the wax till after you remove the sign. This is on new vehcles too!
Sorry I do not know to solve your problem.

try a clay bar, but you will have to clay it all the way from the belt moulding to bottom of door to make sure it doesnt show, then polish with a very good polishing cream

Scott - Sorry this happened. You stated trying waxes and compounds (I'd have thought the compound would have done the job), but have you tried a cleaner wax?

I can't remember the name, but the stuff in the orange bottle sold by aftermarket vendors seems to work for me.

The magnetic sign may have had some residue from the manufacturing process still on it. Our club uses mag-signs for advertising our Iowa Model A Day Show. We always recommend cleaning the signs with a grease cutting agent (Dawn dish liquid), and thoroughly rinsing and drying before use.

Good luck,
Ron/IA

we had one guy that left his on the door for a long period of time and it rusted behind the sign, made a mess

In Australia we have a product called eucalyptus oil. It is good for cleaning goo and gum etc from paint without harming the paint. It is sold in supermarkets and may be available in the USA as well, worth a look.

Cheap off shore magnetic material used by some sign shops have this problem. The better quality (more expensive) magnetic material does not have that problem.

ANY magnetic material left on the car for long periods of time will cause all kinds of problems. (I'm an ex sign shop owner)

I was thinking wax paper would be good to use for magnetic signs.
I don't know a fix for the paint now, but would try polishing wax or a very fine polishing compound.
