Hello All! I am brand new to the forum and brand new to early ford engines. I purchased a 59A-B engine and trans yesterday that supposedly came out of a 46 1.5ton truck. First step is to get it on an engine stand and begin the disassembly. I have removed all of the transmission bolts but am having major difficulty getting the trans to come apart from the engine. Any ideas/suggestions for the newbie? Appreciate all feedback in advance and looking forward to many trips to the "Ford Barn".

Cl disc splines may be "frozen, take off the insp plate and spray some PB blaster or equivilent on them if you can. Others will probably chime in with other methods.

If you have to pry at some point, get an extra person to help and try to pry as evenly as possible. Also if it is in a place you can, block the engine to close to level as possible and use a cherry picker or something to take the weight off of the transmission shaft. I assume since you said 1 1/2 ton this is the heavy 4spd. Taking weight off will help a bunch. Rod

I had a similar issue. First piece of advice is be patient with it! I bought a set of these plastic pry bars from harbor freight:

and then slowly and carefully went around the entire radius of the bell housing and tapped them in slowly. I started on the right side and tapped one in just a little, and then tapped one in opposite (leaving the first one still in) and then I did on the bottom and the top. Then I just went around in a random pattern tapping them in as well as giving some yanks on the tranmisison it eventually freed it up. However, mine wasn't very bad rusted, just hadn't been off in 50 years...

All good ideas that should be a help to you. Rule #1: Be patient. Rule #2: Refer to Rule #1. It'll come off . . . but it may take a while. Good Luck!
