Please read this and my two recent posts: "Will The Shock Absorber Ball Hit The Spring?" and "Front Suspension". I did as JayJay said and removed the bolt to allow the spring perch to come up and was able to get the brake actuating assembly into the hole in the spring perch but, as you can see in the attached photo, it is not lining up. I am doing something with this entire installation that is totally wrong. In addition to the missalignment shown here you can also see in the post titled "Will The Shock Absorber Ball Hit The Spring?" that the ball, where the shock absorber attaches, is to close to the spring. Thanks for any help you can provide

Looks like you may have the left and right kingpins mixed up.How about a picture of the tops of the kingpins. The turtlehead on top of the pin should be AHEAD of the centerline of the axle.Years ago some kingpins got away that had the lock pin notches in the wrong spot, and they would sit in the axles off kilter.

Thanks for chiming in, folks. I was out and about all day, prepping to head to Turlock on Friday. My “free” box is going to be overflowing this year.

Johnr9q - you do have the kingpin dowels installed correctly with the nuts to the rear, right? That’s an easy one to get backwards. Those nuts act as the steering travel stops.

JayJay, I'm glad you told me about the dowel nut. I still question why the shock absorber attachment ball is so close to the spring. Even when I jack the car up by it's axle, it stays about the same. Also, even tho I reinstalled the kingpins properly, where the spring perch attaches to the brake actuator assembly, is still not aligning exactly. (I'll send a pic if you want)

You are looking at all this with the car assembled, correct?you need all that weight on it for thing to fall into place.Engine, body, etc all has to be in place before you start worrying about clearances. If the radius rods aren't bolted up to the bellhousing the front spring will be trying to twist the perch.Your picture looks to me like something is still twisted, like the perch is tightened in crooked to match the spring. Also,is the perch eye and the spring eye exactly the same measurement?

Keith True, I think you are correct. I have some smaller diameter shackles in there temporarly waiting for a reamer before putting in the correct ones. I'll do that today and let you know. I do have the radius rods attached to the bell housing.

One thing that would be helpful is to contact another Model A club member in your area and have a look at their car and take some photos. I know you are not the only Model A in the Sacramento area.
