Very interesting.. In 1949-50 I knew a man that had a '41 Chevy coupe that had an electric OD mounted just behind the trans, in the torque tube.. I thought it was really neat, never saw another one until about two years ago at the Pomona swap meet.. There was a '46 Chevy fast back Fleetline in the car sales area that had the same OD unit.. It was an un-restored car in need of a lot of help.. The asking price.. $4,700.
It would appear that both of these units could have had the same origin... Nash and/or BW.
I have hardly ever paid much attention to the Nash vehicles, I do know that they were ahead of their time in a lot of respects.. One of my uncles had a '40 Nash sedan in '40-41, it had an OD, dual ignition.. i.e. two plugs per cylinder like an airplane.. My grandfather said the Nash was like a race horse..
Looking at the pix of the OD in the '36, it looks like the installation would require splitting the rear wish bones, attaching same to the frame rails.. Maybe shorter '41-'48 wish bones could be used.
Guess I will have to pay more attention to the orphans of the auto industry..
