Help Identifying a Generator for a 1929

I need to rebuild a generator for my 1929 coupe project and I have two of each type of generator in the pictures I attached. I can't figure out which one I should use on the car. I believe I have model A and model B but I can't seem to find a definite answer. I would like to know what I have here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I would want to know the month of your car first to be totally specific. I do not have the Stds in front of me and I cannot see the backs very well but if I recall correctly, the one you are looking for is similar to the one on the left in the right picture however it need to oil hole at the top instead of in the center of the cap.

If you are just asking which one is the A, it is the one I mentioned as being the closest to what you need.

I tink the one on the left is closest. But I don't have my judging standards in front of me.

Those ribs on the right one put it later.

I think it's the one on the left also. If you have the brush band look on the inside of the band for a date stamp. You may see a number and a letter. The number is the month of manufacture and the letter is the year. "J" is the letter for 1929. Also check the armature for a date stamp.

The generator on the left would be the one to use. Some tube type generators were also used in late 28. The early tube type generators had the terminal at the front and a bearing on the brush end plate. I think that the powerhouse generator was still used on some cars up until june 1929.

The generator with the cast front plate is 1933-34. There is probably a "46" part number cast into the inside of the front plate indicating the part was introduced in 1933. It was also supplied by Ford dealers as a replacement for 1928-34 so it will work but not be "correct". As for the other one being "correct" you should check the judging standards.

The one on the left is the correct one for all of 1929 and early 1930, when the rear ball bearing was changed to a bushing. Also in early 1930 the output stud was moved from the front of the case to the rear of the case.

If you have the cover band for the one on the left, it will have a stamped letter & number.
J= 1929 & the number is the month. These gennies came in around April/May. Before this, the Powerhouse was used 1928 into 1929.
The genie with the bushing should have a K or L stamped on the band[ 1930 & 1931] with the month the gen. was assembled.

Thanks for the info! It is a big relief to know that I can find help on this site with my project. At first this project seemed daunting but now I am really enjoying myself and can't wait until I get the car together. Thanks again and I will get going on that generator.
