Help ID: Cylinder head, pistons, valves: original ?

More pics from the never-ending head-gasket job on my '28 Special Coupe.

Got the head back from the machine shop last week - they had to take 0.015" off to true-it up.

Cleaned the deck, pistons, and valves yesterday, and found what I presume to be original factory parts ? Definitely some authentic Ford parts...

Do all oversized pistons carry a marking on the face of the piston crown ? (found none)

Also, were Ford intake valves marked in any way ? ( no marks on mine)

I'm sure the head has been off my engine before, as I removed a blown copper R-3 gasket, and it was wearing bright shiny head nuts... but I'm kind of sure the pistons & valves are all original. Car's speedo/ odo are working, showing 80,000 miles.

With a piston at TDC, I can wiggle it from side to side at least 1/16" inch; no ridge at the top of the cylinder bore though... the only marking on the pistons is the word "Front" in Ford script, with an arrow through it.

Take a look, let me know what y'all think... (Sorry about the poor cel-phone pics!)

It looks like you have enough oil getting past the rings and cleaning the carbon off on part of the pistons. Probably due for an overhaul.

Oh, she's definitely due for an overhaul... also found a crack radiating towards the cylinder bore from # 2 exhaust valve seat. ( Probably the source of my combustion leakage into the cooling system.)

I'm trying to determine if this engine's ever been rebuilt before, thus my question if I'm looking at standard-bore stock pistons, valves, etc ?

It very well could be a block that has never been bored, and still close to std at the bottom , it also could be worn .030 or more at the top, it is amazing how well new rings can work in such a worn bore ---for a short time, the ridge would have been cut off the top of the bore each time it was re-ringed.
The crack can be pinned and a seat put in,Hopefully you have the original matched rods and a virgin crank (untouched by a cheapo regrind), I have been using that type of script valve ,never had a problem with them and hard seats.
