Hello friends.

I have problems with my Chevy conversion distributor, it works badly with degrees clockwise. It seems to have no solution.

I want to buy a new one, I want your opinion:

I have a flathead 49

88 isky cam

progressive tripower stromber 97

Navarro heads

What electronic distributor with coil and old school look can I buy?

Thanks

Where did you get the converted distributor? If it was from Charlie Schwendler in New York, he would make things right in a heartbeat. Even if it wasn't him, I'm sure he'd help you out.

Unfortunately, with the apparent language problem and your location, you may not be able to take advantage of the great resource. If for some reason this interests you, his contact is :

Charlie Schwendler
5845 Cole Road
Orchard Park NY 14127
(716) 662-9159

I would think twice about an another aftermarket electronic ignition. They never seem to be 100% right; unreliable, wrong timing curve, susceptible to dirty power, finicky about plug wires and coils, etc.

do you know email?

conversion I make with posts on the internet

Sorry I didn't include the email. Just so you know, Charlie is very skilled and knowledgeable, and will do all he can to help you out with your problem.

I'll bet he has done dozens (if not hundreds) of these conversions over the years. He has done two for me already, an is currently doing two more. When he is done, I am sending another, a flattop Mallory for an SBC with a mechanical tach drive, as I was able to source one AND a NOS Stewart-Warner mechanical tachometer.

I can't find a solution...

I'm going to buy a new distributor.

What do you think of Mallory Unilite?

I like the old school look and it works with a coil.

Most of the members here prefer point dist but If you choose the Mallory make sure its the genuine Mallory Unilite and not the offshore clone. Stromberg-97.com in the UK makes an electronic 12V neg ground unit. They stand behind their product.I have a friend here that bought one and after 2 yrs was having an issue. They made it right at no cost . Since you are in Spain you can buy it direct from them or O'Neill Ford Parts in UK.Price is the same. Send me a PM if you want more info or if I can help.I am in France.Up to you.

PS I have run the Mallory Unilite for many yrs mainly on pre '49,24 stud Flatheads and never had problems.

Why don´t you convert a distributor yourself? I have done so on two french flatheads. Get in touch with me, I can let you know what needs to be done.
Regards, Harty

Hi
I have seen the distributor in Germany.

I have read about problems with this distributor. Is this true?

England has problems with taxes.

Merci

Yes you will have the EU tax,no UK tax. They ship UPS. I do not know of problems with that one.In the begining they were having issues but those problems are sorted out.
Here is the problem with buying in USA. If there is a problem it can get complicated.
With the UK ,I called and talked with Clive ,who I know, and we sorted out the issues. He even sent a brand new unit to replace the defective one.NO Charge. Try dealing with Speedway or Summit from Europe,Good Luck.
The one from Germany has tax included so no tax to you, just shipping.

If you buy direct from UK its 422 Euros + shipping to Spain. You then have the tax to pay when you receive it.

I have no interest in Stromberg and just tying to help you out.
Vincent in Germany also responded and maybe he can help.

Yes its genuine.$449.00 plus shipping to you and then EU Tax. What will the tax be ? 20% ?

In Spain you have to pay a lot of taxes...

21% VAT + 20% customs duties + 40€ processing + 50€ shipping.

Distributor 450€ + approx. 200€ taxes = 650€ distributor

I paid less than 100€ for an Accel 34100, spent an evening on the lathe to make the housing fit the timing cover of the flathead including the geardrive and adjusted the flyweights to 15 degrs movement, at 2000 all in. Runs happily. On the blown engine I included a vac/pressure can to advance/retard influenced by the manifold pressure below the blower. Easy to do if you have a lathe and some common sense.
