Really Rotten

hey guys, so im been pondering this and its hurting my head...

the weather in MI hasnt been warm enough to get out in the garage and really start taking stuff appart yet...

i got a 52 crestline. its got a flattie, and orginaly a automatic.
i recently bought a 49 merc 3 speed manual with OD.. ( complete minus pedal wiring for the OD) but i also have a T-5 Unit , im not sure what to do about the clutch linkage. I was contemplating maybe using pedal assembly out of a late 60's mustang or other ford? i plan on running a late 60's ford brake master cylinder for the brakes... has anyone done this or have advised or really any assistance or guidance would be wonderful thank you !

If it was me, and I was looking for a driver and not sweating the restoration,, I would opt for the T-5 and a hydraulic clutch.. With the auto brake pedal,, pedal clearance may be an issue. Clutch/ brake pedals etc show up on freebay quite often and normally don't bring much.

The Merc ****** is not a direct change with the Ford, You would probably end up changing the rear ****** mount and cross member anyway,, Solenoid may get in the way,, etc, and you would either need a three speed steering column or a shifter.

Either way the rear end may be a bit high geared for the overdrive gear in either ******.

Stock OD rear gears were in the 4.11 or lower area with the autos being 3??

thanks!! im not doing any fancy resto its going to be a hot rod so it dont matter. is there any perticular model i should be looking for a pedal assembly out of? i plan on swaping in a early 90s for ranger rear axle i guess i need to find a bell housing out of the truck flatties so i can make the adaptor for the T-5 work.. thanks again ! appericate all the help i can get. i think i prolly bit off more than i can chew with this one but i know i can make it work.

52-54 Ford or Merc would fit for sure pretty sure 55 and 56 would be close.. There are a couple assemblies listed for 55-56 now

I was at the Mercuryland auction last fall and a guy who sells on eBay that goes by 5barnauto bought a ton of stuff.. It would probably be worth your time to get a hold of him, he can possibly help you out

Your best bet would be to get the entire pedal assembly including the clutch linkage out of a 52-53 parts car. This way everything will fit. Try Hemmings, the classified (wanted)section of this site.

Not sure about the 54 stuff, but the pedal assembly should be the same. Clutch linkage may be different as Ford went to the Y Block in 54.
