Hi Guys! I have a bone stock 31 Model A & throttle return spring broke! I bought a new one from Berts & cool! Took off floor board & removed assembly! No Pins no screws HOW HOW do you put spring on shaft does one end come off? Pull shaft & put on spring? HELP Tks Bill

No Mitch. You are the man. Just an easy throttle spring. Nothing compared to your repair of a broken clutch and helping out a stranded pickup driver. That was great of you to help that guy out and you should be commended as a lot of other people have stated. That's what makes this barn such a good site. Thanks again, Mark.

I need to replace the same spring on mine, perhaps someone could share the procedure? I looked in Les' book and did not see it there, nor in the service bulletins, iff'n I missed it, feel free to tell me where to go...

Just slide it on the shaft with the large u end of the spring as shown and rotate the arm around to hook it . When in place it will have spring pressure. No tools needed

i THINK (dont count me on this) you kinda thread the spring on around the shaft... like putting a key on a keychain kinda concept...least i think... been a long while since i asked...

Thank you for the photo, mine is completly missing, the PO had a tension spring running from the manifold clamp nut to the throttle shaft ball stud. I knew it could not be right.

Hello and Welcome.

Depends what year you have.
The 1930 to '31 you can unhook the short piece of throttle linkage from the arm to the Carb, and slide the spring up the arm. The 1928 to '29 is different, and I do not know how that one is done, but someone here does.

can the throttle return spring be replaced without removing the entire throttle mechanism from the engine?

As mentioned, the later spring is easy to change, but the 28-9 linkage needs to be removed and the pin removed from the arm to change the spring.
