Helmet distributor lubrication

I have always wondered what, where, and how much lubrication should be used when assembling a helmet distributor. I took one apart today and was surprised that the area behind the advance mechanism was packed with what appeared to be cornhead grease. It had even gotten into the weights and was restricting movement. The few I have done I have used lubrication very sparingly. I just wondered what others are doing.

I lube as you indicate with oil. except at the points and cam then use point lube made for that purpose.

I recently asked some experienced (older) mechanic friends about what grease I should use on a distributor. Their answer was “distributor grease “.
A good alternative may be disc brake caliper grease as it tends not to flow and go places it shouldn’t.
