Hello baby, here's your rattle!

I just got back from a "sans-speedo cable" drive...about 6 mi. Amazingly, the speedo cable is very quiet when absent. It may have been kicking up a fuss back home in the garage...

OTOH, I was laughing the entire drive. Is there anything in a Model A that doesn't rattle? It is probably the most unintentionally noisy vehicle I've ever driven. The hood rattles, the windshield rattles, the rumble seat lid rattles, the exhaust rattles, the shackles rattle, the anti-rattle springs rattle (half of them are backwards). I think even the rubber parts rattle.

Some of these things are on the "to do" list, some are simply part of the experience.

I think I'm going to have to learn to play "Ol' Rattler" on the banjo and keep one in the floorboard behind the seat.

Model As might not have a fancy sound system but we do have stereophonic rattles! On a long drive, I wear ear plugs.

I have eliminated most of my rattles. Well fitting doors and windows, weather striping and DynaMat work wonders.

My car does not have any engine noise, trans noise, muffler noise, rear end noise, speedometer cable noise, steering noise, windshield noise, road noise, or wife noise.

Oh, I forgot to put in my hearing aids.:o

While I like my Model A and have driven it on many adventures - I would say the difference between a Model A and a Model T is that the Model T is a MACHINE. The Model A is transportation.

GOl' Rattler" on the banjo and keep one in the floorboard behind the seat.

Got a chuckle out of this... Thanks for posting.

I would of loved to drive a brand new Model A to see what kind of rattles occured.

Then we would have some kind of base for gauging our vehicles today.

The perfect family car with a motor for Papa, a trunk for Mama, and a rattle for Baby.
(Model T joke paraphrased from Floyd Clymer in “Henry’s Wonderful Model T”)
My new-to-me Fordor has a percussive snap-rattle which seems to emanate from behind the dashboard and a few others. The noises are so much more audible in this closed car compared to the Roadster which has constant wind blast and traffic cacophony. Chasing them down one at a time. The Roadster had a horrible, loud, squealing noise which turned out to be the metal floor plate around the shifter which didn’t match the angle of the toe board joining the floorboard. The tricky part is that noises may seem to emanate from one area but are generated somewhere else and transmitted to remote locations.
Reminds me of a big old Victorian era house my grandmother had. There were speaking tubes running through the walls to summon servants. They had been papered over decades earlier, but still transmitted seemingly ghostly voices. Boooooooh

Hello, have driven a few recent restorations ,and if properly done, AModel A is relatively quiet, still get engine, fan and exhaust noise, but rattle and squeaks are relatively absent, this is of course,as mentioned in previous post, doors fit all rubber and anti squeak material are correctly installed. Had an opportunity to drive a low mileage, original, 1931 coupe, it was a world of difference between the well used 1930 I had.
