Heavy Hood

Has anyone ever installed struts on the hood of a '49 to '51 Ford? The hood on my '51 is quite heavy (probably not helped by the leaded nose). As I get older it becomes harder to lift it and I think struts like on newer cars would help a lot. There must be a way to figure out what size struts to use. Thanks.

Maybe if you know the weight of your hood and compare it to the weight of the tailgate on a vehicle you want to get the struts off. That's how I'd start....... Mark

Get a bathroom scale and a 2X4. Prop the hood open with the 2x4 setting on the scale. That will give you the weight so you can order the appropriate strut/struts.
