Heater Hose Connection

I have a 36 PU with a 59a engine. I have the heater coming off the pass side of the engine at the top of the head and the return going in at the radiator bottom hose with the standard fitting ford provided.(standard connection) My question is this set up allows the passenger side of the engine to run 15-20 degrees hotter than the drivers side - is there a way to balance this out better? 36fordguy

Actually, the pass side of engine would run cooler when heater turned on, but with thermostats and common radiator tanks for engine, everything will compensate (theoretically anyway).

I haven't heard of any such equalizing device, but I do seriously question the heater as being responsible for such a difference in temperature. I suggest that one of several other issues is involved, and that you systematically eliminate them as causal elements. Remember, using two different sensors can give false results, so you'll need to determine temps with something more reliable.
The heater is the first and easiest, requiring only that you shut off the valve at the head and recheck temperatures.
Next, a difference in type and condition of thermostats can be determined.
Condition of pump impellers next.
Finally, all else being equal, removal of the pumps, backflushing, and clean out using coat hangers and such.

I'm using a heat gun to determine the temp. The water coming out of the head is hot going to the heater, the heater does not cool the water that much, the water comes out of the heater still hot , enters the lower pump hotter than the radiator water - this short cycle is causing that side of the motor to be hotter. If I close the heater shut off valve then it goes back to normal. Right now I have the valve about 25% open reducing the water flow thru the heater and temp balance is better 36fordguy

I noticed just what you are talking about with a heat-gun checking the temp.My therory is when you have a load on the engine ,driveing....It'll even out..I had one of my thermostats side-ways in the hose...Though it's not Right,,,,,"Didn' seem ta hurt the runnin' none"...Carl
