Heads mismatched?

The '34 pickup engine has 8BA head on the driver's side and EAC head on the passenger side. Is that normal?

Not that it matters, as it is the sweetest running flathead I ever had.

not really, should be the same numbers on each head, EAC is the last of this design (8BA) and was probably the replacement head from Ford should you need one. I subscribe to "if it ain't broke don't fix it" leave it alone and drive that sweet running flatty!

Isn't an "EAC" a Mercury head? I thought the Ford's were "EAB"'s. As such, since Mercury heads generally have slightly larger combustion chambers than the current year Ford and '52-'53 Mercury's have a higher compression than the 8BA's ('49-'51), perhaps the combustion chambers are quite close in size. It may all come out in the wash.:)

(It is probably better than running one "8BA" head and one "EAB" head.)

Was told that the engine was a '53 Mercury, which jives with the EAC.

It is my wife's "barn truck" to haul feed, tack, and diet coke. Drives it every day that it is not raining or extreme cold. Hasn't let us down yet. Her biggest complaint is the amount of time she spends explaining what her cool truck is all about.

drolston, you might google : flathead ford compression ratio chart. You'll find something on a Hamb thread there. Comp ratios etc. My engine is 8cm on 1 side & eac on the other.
Ratio & cc's totally different, but ran good tjll it started to USE OIL. iN THE SHOP NOW.
If it ain't broke...... mike
