I have a New headliner on order , is it a very difficult job to do it yourself ? Do I just follow the directions is there some tricks to having a nice job , Thanks

Mark the center of the headliner and the center of the car roof to keep everything straight.
I start at the rear and work forward.
Take your time.

I would suggest ironing it first. I didn’t when I did the one in my ‘50 and I think it would have been better had I ironed it first. I agree with marking the centers. Having a helper is a good idea. Hang it on the bows (if your car has those), get the seams straight side to side, then do around the rear and front windows then over doors. Keep your eye on the seams, mine wanted to get crooked when I was doing the ends…….Mark

If you are installing a headliner in a 1940 Ford this thread tells you how it's done, INCLUDING LEBARON BONNEY INSTRUCTIONS.

SOME TIPS

Remove the seats.

KEEP YOUR HANDS NICE AND CLEAN.

Start from the back window.

Be sure to paint your headliner bows so they won't rust and stain headliner.

Allow plenty of extra material to pull the material around the sun visor bracket holes and to the top edge of the windshield.

Use Contact Cement to attach headline material around back window and non opening windows like in a 40 coupe.

BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME.

I just went through this with my 35 tudor sedan. What are you installing it in? The info I received may be helpful.

After you get the headliner installed, get a spray bottle and spray it moderately with clear water, then roll up the windows and park it in the sun... Smoother than a newborn baby's butt.

Spend an eternity on research. There is a ton of information accessible on this and other forums. In addition to what's already been posted, I found using a clothes/fabric steamer was invaluable when attempting to smooth out wrinkles. Follow carefully the order of steps necessary to take before starting.
BTW. What year and model are you working on?

If you use a squirt bottle or a steamer be sure to use distilled water. Water from the tap is a recipe for stains.
