Headlight wiring

Having difficulty getting a good tight connection from the conduit to the head light plug coming from the lamp housing. Installed new two lamp wire harnesses and it appears the dimples on the ferrules aren't latching. Is it possible to hard wire and maintain an original appearance?,

I would attempt to make the tabs better on the connection, or find original parts. Others have hard wired and used twist ties inside the lamps.

To answer your question, yes. Mine are hard wired together behind the reflector. The only way you would know is to disassemble the headlight.
This will now be your little secret! :D

if you can find some original ferrules. use them. the repro`s are not any good. or if you can make the dimples in the ferrules a little deeper, I have tried that with out success.

Hi lautens,

For over the past 20 years everyone reported the repro's are not good .... find originals; where later ..... it was later reported originals are most difficult to find.

After speaking with Mr. Walt Bratton a few years back, (and as is most usual for Mr. Bratton), he had some special made with having no complaints for the past (7) years or so when I spoke to him. I ordered his connectors back then .... his new ones initially worked great without hard wiring, and are still working great after (10) years.

Maybe call and specifically ask for Mr. Walt Bratton at Bratton's to inquire if these are still available.

Most Model A parts supplier owners are most sincere & try their best; and sometimes one part supplier may just have a newly manufactured part others do not offer.

Actually, Alan Lepore makes those good ferrules, and we ( and Brattons) have been selling them for years. Most folks unfortunately buy the Taiwan made conduits, that have poorly made ferrules.

Steve @ Bert's

When I rewired my headlights, everything came from Bert's...buckets,( my ccpu had 28's) ferrules, light sockets harness etc etc....

Works fine lasts a long time....

I posted an article similar to response No. 7 above as early as 2013 about Bratton's wonderful headlight sockets ........ which he has had available since about 2006 .... i.e., about 11 years ago ........ however the typical "Forum Heresy" continues about all new headlight sockets are horrible ....... not always.

Maybe in reading past replies, we all have a bit of Forum CRS now and then; however, with Model A restoration, if one strives for doing it right the first time and only once, it is never a bad idea to call our reliable parts supplier "managers" to inquire who has what and to ask about quality?

Ok, now that it's hard wired, I have another question. I've replaced the lamps with new ones and just wonder why the park lamps removed were 6v 21cp and what the supplier's are now selling is a 6v 3cp lamp.

Some brain surgeon put the wrong globes in there!

The 21 is wrong for the headlamp second bulb as shipped from Ford.

"Vehicles without cowl lamps should have two bulb head
lamps, a 3cp at the top and a double filament 21/21cp
or 32/21cp in the center.

are the light sockets good? the repos ive seen have way too large of springs and contacts that look like 90% of the time would short out....

Yes, you are absolutely right on the contacts. My original sockets the springy thing flopped to the side and would short out . It took many tries to figure it out. I actually installed new sockets and the problem went away.

From #14 above with:

After his receiving hundred's of Model A orders and phone calls all day, every day at work, a big thanks to Mr. Steve at Bert's for reviewing this Forum, after work, (at night), and taking his valuable time to post reply #8 to keep Model A owners informed.

Just for kicks, on a scale of 1 to 10, from many past experiences, for assisting, informing, & educating informed and uninformed Model A customers, in my book, Mr. Steve ranks an 11 through infinity.

Also, if you are getting ready to sell a Model A and want only cheap, crap for parts, Mr. Steve is also well informed exactly where to buy cheap crap ......... after Model A owners get thoroughly screwed with cheap crap, he hears these cheap crap repo parts sob stories every day. LOL
