Headlight wiring for 41

The picture shows my finger in the hole for the headlights in the inner fender for a 41. I can't seem to find a rubber grommet listed in the usual catalogs. Surely the wires don't go thru a metal opening without a grommet?

Mine doesn't have a grommet but the headlight wires are run through a thick woven wire loom that runs from the headlight bucket through the hole in the inner fender.

I think the answer is there is not a grommet, the sheath is what goes through the hole, BUT if you want to add a grommet all you need are the dimensions. The link states through 40 on car and 41 on truck.

This is a little bit off the grommet topic, but I wonder why Ford made so many little odd changes for the 41 Ford? I wonder if it was an experimental year of some type.

Or for that matter during the 41 model year. Two different front fenders and three different fan mounts.

The 1941 was a major change year. The few and far between 1942 models were the basis for the post war cars through 1948 so there is some interchangeability there. There is very little interchangeability for the 1941 models.

Ford of Canada may have used them. Ford USA didn't use them a lot but they were used in some locations. They just armored there cable instead.

In aviation, we use the rubber ones, plastic C-rings, or the Panduit polyethylene caterpiller edge grommet strips that can be cut down to fit any hole or access way where electrical wiring passes through a bulkhead.

I found grommets that fit, then used RTV to secure the loom in the grommet. Ford definitely should have used a bit more thought on the placement of those holes!

Lowes, Menards and other hardware/ big box stores have grommets in most any size you want. I have gotten several sizes there that I have put in my truck.
