Headlight switch bail tightness?

Ok working on my headlight switch. How tight should the retaining bail be on the switch housing? Mine seems loose very easy to engage. My switch housing also moves when the switch is turned. Should the switch housing be firmly pushed up against the column when the bail is installed? Should there be any movement of the switch housing when the headlight switch is turned?

I had a smilar issue with excessive movement of the switch body. There were two issues.

One was the brass contacts were a little proud of the plastic, along with a slight trough worn between the contacts. This caused the buttons to get hung up, twisting the body. I was able to smooth these transition points with careful use of a dremel.

The second issue was the body connection to the steering column. It had been spread open a bit, which made a loose fit. The alignment notch was spread apart too, which let the body rotate a bit. I was able to tighten it up with pliers. Here is a before and after photo.

Now everything works just fine.
