There is a set on nickle plated (original) reflectors of sale on eBay. How does the reflectivity of nickle compare with the original silver or the modern aluminum?
Nickel reflectivity varies from about 70% to 80% depending on the plating method, which determines deposition density. Both Silver and Aluminum can exceed 90%. As a comparison, polished 304 or 316 stainless steel is about 62%.
The good news is that the nickel plate is the first step in the aluminum plating process (and UVIRA (541) 474-5050, the aluminum plater, doesn't do nickel).
I have used a set of nickel plated reflectors in my Coupe and was very disappointed. I switched to re-silvered originals and was surprised at the amount of improvement. Gar Williams
Dan Bixby is the likely seller on eBay (Phoncon) and Charlie is correct regarding that an original reflector needs to be quality nickle plated prior to having the Uvira coating performed. The Uvira is probably a little superior to Silver as far as reflectivity, ...but vastly superior in maintenance & upkeep.
Love my Uvira reflectors. As I have said "I can see into the next century". Not the cheapest way to go if your pinchin pennies. Had mine done 3-4 years ago. Fresh nickle $130.00, Uvira $60.00 which including return shipping. Smile factor.............priceless
