Headlamp connector recommendation

if you are talking the pig tails inside the head light buckets. NO one makes a real good working reproduction. but if you are talking the bullet on the end of the wire loom Bratton`s has the good ones part# 20421

This is what i use, the bullet style.

I use the original style bullet connector. They work so much better than the original push in type connector, a lot more positive contact, however when you want to dis-connect you have to take the headlight lens off. Kind of a hassle for me as the little spring clips are real vulnerable to breakage. I don't think they were designed to be worked a lot.

I also use the bullet connectors with the rubber coated sleeves that the rest of the car uses. It is a pain to take the headlamp apart to disconnect, and if your car was not a show car, you could make the connections at the point where the wires go through the radiator shell, between the shell and the radiator.
I use a short piece of rubber hose, like fuel hose to insulate the wires from the metal ferrel on the headlamp. All this requires destroying the original type connector, but that does not bother me to destroy a repro part.

A question for CarlG. Where do you get those crimping tools. Haven't found any like that, but would be interested in buying some.

Mine look like the ones Mike V. mentioned. These connectors are available in .176 diameter. That is within 4 thousandths of the diameter of the ends on the original 3-wire harness (the connectors that go in the little barrel-shaped plug). I didn't have to modify the ends on the wiring harness, but just on the headlight socket side. I haven't had a single problem since.

Wow, they are sure proud of their tools.:D

Bob
H F probably has a crimper for $7.50 or less. Only problem with that is that they just mangle the bullet connectors and the wire just falls out whenever it feels like it.

Small torch, a little flux and solder works well, I have found some of the problem seems to be the bullet holder. Brattons has all the right stuff, or useto .

I also solder the bullet part to the wire whenever I use them on any wire. I makes for a cleaner install in my opinion.
