Dear sirs, I have a 32 frame , late flathead, and F1 steering, and a stock wishbone,I am looking for headers, or cast iron exhaust manifold that will fit. Reds Headers says that he cant make headers now and doesnt know when he will be able to. Can any one tell me what will work? Drake has cast iron headers, a police left side manifold, and steel tube headers, they cant tell me what will fit. Can anybody help? Dave Miller

I've used Speedways Y style headers with early steering on several chassis. Part number 910-13601 for plain steel.

The center dump headers will not work because of the stock wishbone. I don't think the
cast iron will fit either because of the steering box on the drivers side. The log style will work and get you to the rear of the block. You may have to flatten the area at the steering box.As stated above Reds can make what you need or make them your self from 180 mandrel bends .

Your right, I need to read a little closer. My experiences with the Y headers have been with split bones.

Many years ago, like 60, I found that for general street driving stock Ford cast iron manifolds, with twice pipes, are about as good as it gets.
The narrow frame and steering gear location on the early V8's make center dump headers problematic at their best.
I have the stock '36 log style of manifolds on the 59AB engine in my '36. I once thought that I would put headers on the car, I bought a set, found that the only way they would fit was to put a big dent in the center pipe to clear the steering gears,
I put the stock manifolds back on the engine and never tried to go down the header path again.
I have attached a pix of the '36 log style of manifolds on my car.. You will note the limited clearance between the steering gears and the manifold..

I had some headers on order from Red's and got this email response:

The comments for your order are: We are not able to produce these headers at
this time. We will not have more available until at least late March due to
manpower problems. We will keep your information on file and contact you
once we are able to resume production. Sorry for any problems this may cause
you.

I have used their headers for a 32 Ford with flathead and F100 steering in a couple of cars. This was with 37 Nash steering (similar in size/configuration to F100) and they fit great...that's why I tried ordering another set for a future build. I have tried Drakes and others and they will not fit with a later steering box.

Here's pics of the Red's headers that I have used.

Drake has 2 kinds of Police manifolds. 49-51 manifold has the exit flange toward the rear of the casting. The 52-53 manifold has the exit flange near the center of the casting. Any ideas as to which will work best? Thanks again Dave Miller
