Head with hole in it

I have a standard A head that someone installed a 3/8" pipe threaded hole in, probably for a hot water heater. I am not sure if it has any cracks or not. If it is OK (no cracks), I am wondering if and how I could seal shut the fairly large hole and use the head. I don't know if I could welded it shut with my Lincoln SP100 welder and grind down the weld or trying to weld it would ruin it. The head metal thickness where the hole is, is a little more than 1/8" thick. If anyone has repaired large holes like this successful, please post how you did it. I am pasting a picture in below. Thanks for any suggestion on how to fix the hole.

Good idea, that might work OK. Maybe I could use J-B Weld for the epoxy as it resists heat, oil and gas pretty well.

Put the plug in, then braze it in place. Grind it down, then distress the area with a center punch to match the rough surface of the head. Once painted you will not know it was there.

You say it's a pipe thread then a tapered pipe plug should work perfectly. I'd put hardening permatex or locktite on the plug tighten it and grind it flush. As stated rough it up to match the head surface and hide it with paint.

George H,
Do you have any good heads, without cracks that are a dollar or two? I sure can't find any that are real cheap maybe $10 to $30 or more is what I see. Let me know if you have any and I will buy them.

Last one I sold was cleaned and resurfaced and went for 100$. Cost me 50$ to have it resurfaced. We both thought we got a deal.
