Head studs are a better arrangement but aluminum heads can stick on over time. Bolts are not such a good arrangement but the Head can't stick on. Which do you use and why? Any thoughts or considerations?
Iron heads can seize also ! Seal the studs into the block, lather up the stud bodies with anti- seize, use iron or aluminum, a Ford fix for leaking Diesel cylinder head gaskets is to replace bolts with stud !
Based on the measurements shown in the video below, If you use a torque wrench with anti-seize you may over-tighten by 100% or more.
There is a technique that allows accurate torque setting while using anti-seize.
Check this out for details.
Fast forward to 16:39 for the part about anti-seize.
So this is my take on the subject
Both bolts and studs do the same job but the wear is very different on the threads in the block
Studs especially good quality ones will resist stretching and keep the threads in the block lasting longer
There are many old wives tales about over torquing the threads or using certain lubricants and causing thread pull out
If you use well defined specifications and practices you will probably not experience any problems, if it has been “repaired” by some improper methods all bets are off
