Head storage

Picked up a set of Y block heads yesterday. What is the best way to store them long term? They are just spares so will be sitting for a long time? Grease the snot out of them?

The best thing you can do is bolt them down to a spare short-block.
Do not set them on concrete.
I have a set of heads stored for a couple of dacades now within a large home-made wooden shelving unit, made mostly of scrap 2x4 lumber with 1x6 as the shelving. There are some intermadiate 2x4 supports under the 1x6's, but it's not perfect.
Anyway, the milled surfaces look like they were just done yesterday, but I don't know if any warping has occurred.
If you have to store them without a short block, I suggest sitting them on perfectly flat 1 x lumber with rocker covers installed on top of them or some kind of cover over them to keep dust and insects out.

A block is out of the question at the moment as I don’t have one. So I may have to get some 2/6’s planed and bolt them to those.

They aren't going to warp. They will rust if they aren't fully protected by something...I prefer engine oil covering every surface. Then put them in a sealed plastic bag and they will be just fine for as long as you store them.On a shelf is great, above floor level is best.

Thanks, I will probably end up putting them on a board and then stuffing them in a bag after oiling them up.
