head lights

in my 1935 ford coupe how many different positons where on the head light switch? was there a park light and a high and low beam and also did the bulb ground through the head light assembly there is also a small bulb at the top of the reflector on the inside.also does anybody know where a person can pick up the tube that goes down the steering shaft to the light switch? thanks bill

Bill, the horn light switch on the steering wheel has three positions: Off, Parking Light, and Headlights.
Your dimmer switch on the floor changes hi/lo beams. The small bulb in the reflector is the Parking Light.
The ground circuit did go through the headlight assembly to the fender, then to the frame, finally to the dash where the battery ground connects.
All those possibilities for rust and oxidation to interfere with the ground on a 78 year old car means trouble, so take the ground from the headlight directly to the frame with copper wire and you'll improve your lights.
If your Horn/Light Rod is bent, you can try straightening it by laying it on a hard surface, turning it as you bump the high spots out. They are very scarce, but not altogether gone, so keep your eyes open and good luck!

On my 36 in the center its off.Turn to the right the high beam light comes on.Turn to left from off position the first position is the park lights and second is low beam. The horn rod and tube is an assy, not being reproduced. You need to find a good one.35-36 Ford did not have the dimmer switch in the floor. That came out later. Those green coded wires are for the brake light switch.

Hi Bill,

Do you belong to the Early Ford V-8 Club of America? If so, I would recommend that you get involved with the local EFV-8 Club in your region. I belong to Region 141, which is located near you. As a matter of fact, I drive through Union City at least once a year to attend an auction at one of our club member's place just south of Portland, IN on U.S. 27. This year's auction and club meeting is on April 26th at around noon. There will be several folks there that have experience with your '35. I owned a '35 3W coupe myself. The funds raised from the items auctioned off will be donated to the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum in Auburn, IN. We do this with the Indiana Regional Groups...a lot of fun! Let me know if you are interested....love to have ya!
