Head Lights not working right

I have a 29 pickup that the headlights are not working right. When I move the light lever one notch to the right only the right headlight comes on. When I move it further right, they both come on but are very dim. Any suggestions?
 
Check the bulb and connections in the left one. Check the ground path through the headlight mounting bolts, the head light bar, fender brace etc. Old rusty nuts/ bolts don't carry a very good ground. Could also check for corrosion in it he switch. It probably will be a bad connection either in power or ground.
 
I got my new bulbs today and have checked all the connections. I had the same issue until I started the car. After it ran for a few minutes the lights worked fine. Does this have something to with the 6 volt system? Is this normal or did something just happen to vibrate into the right position?
