Decking or milling changes the cr very little. Check your timing. There is a timing strip available from the dealers that bolt to the front passenger motor mount bolt. Then you can actually use a timing light.

I like the timing strip concept, cost is reasonable, probably don't need it but I like things that make life easier.

When I first put the Winfield head, with no counter bore, on my engine, I had a standard head gasket, a solid copper gasket and the another standard gasket. I ran great for quite a while until the head cracked between the two center bolts.
