Head gasket replacement

I'm replacing the head gaskets on my 8Ba,it's. 40 over with stock heads. Speedways big bore gaskets say they fit up to 3.25 and mine should be 3.2275. Speedway says they are right ,the numbers look right to me but I've been told that's not enough clearance to prevent the gaskets from protruding into the cylinders. Am I missing something. Thanks

From what I gather, big bore gaskets are needed when it's .125" over or more. At .040, you should be OK with "normal" gaskets.

I bought a set of Graphtite head gaskets from Speedway 6 months ago. The only style they had was the "Big Bore" type. They state these gaskets are suitable for 3 1/16" to 3 3/8". Which is 3.375" mine was 0.080" over. 3.2675". Obviously you want the gasket as close to your bore size as you can, but you don't want the fire ring to protrude into the combustion chamber. Put the gasket into the block with a couple of bolts and check.
