If the head gasket shows signs of slight leaking (crusting) in several places after driving at higher speeds (45 mph+), is it considered blown? When does this low level leaking affect performance and need replacing?
If it leaks internally it is time to replace it. If it is a seam weeping don't worry about it. you might re-torque the head just to see if there is any take-up to it.
it sounds lile you need to retorque the head, a blown head gasket usually shows igns of engine miss, over heating, water in the oil or an excessive amount of water or vapor coming out of the tail pipe, before you get to upset i would retorque the head and then put in a jar of bars leak, run it for a week and see if the problem goes away
In re-torqueing, it is always a good idea to first turn head nuts counter-clockwise (CCW) about 1/8 of a turn to break the joint between nut threads & head bolts & between nut seatings on top of painted head; then proceed carefully to incrementally turn head nuts clockwise (CW) to read proper torque.
Follow same bolt torqueing sequence as recommended when installing a new head gasket; i.e., from center of head outward.
