I intend to fit a Riley two port to my banger motor, can I use bolts instead of studs,it's proving to be a nightmare trying to get the correct studs here in Australia.Would love to hear from anyone who has used the bolts with any sort of success.what do you guy's think. Thanks Ken in OZ

Ken pretty sure ARP have the studs your looking for have not done a Riley for a long time but I do remember using ARP studs when I did

Go to a Caterpillar tractor dealer, they have bolts that exceed grade-8 specs, and are reasonably priced. I've used these with success.

As a last resort, your computer is your best friend.
Almost any machine shop in the world can make studs to your specifications and have them at your door in about 2 weeks.
Have them made from cold drawn SAE 4340HT.

Hey Ken,
Just spoke to a buddy who is installing an OHV Head. It is tooo close to his model t firewall to use studs. He has taken the advice of the 4e4 guy who sold him the setup, i.e.- use bolts ! The old guy used bolts for same reason in his model A with success, according to his word. My question on bolt useage is...in A/B block useage, how much torque can be used on the BLOCK THREADS vs say 65lbs torque on the stud nuts

Thanks for your valued responses.
Colin ,ived tried ARP,THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN SELLING STUDS BY LENTH,unless you can give them the make of car and model no ,they are just not interested.its very frustrating.all of the auto stores,Bursons,Repco, are no better

I was able to get ARP studs for my 5.5 Snyder head, but only because I had their part numbers. Giving them the Make & Model was a joke. They didn't even know what a Model A Ford was.

I know this has nothing to do with the head stud/bolt line of this thread but I recently bought a Model A from the US. The previous owner had had it serviced at the local Ford dealer before he sent it. What a joke! The brakes were dangerously out of adjustment even though they had "adjusted" them, the diff was bone dry and the Mitchell O/D took about 10 ounces. I think they didn't even own the tool to remove the inspection plugs. The windscreen sticker said the next service was due at whatever miles which was 3,000 miles down the track. It doesn't have an oil filter so that was courting disaster. I could go on with the list of stuff ups. It is quite clear they had no idea what they were doing, in which case, they shouldn't have accepted the job.
I'll not identify the dealer here but if anybody in Arizona would like to know, PM me.
