when i bough this truck i wasnt sure which way to go with it , i hang on the other dark site because we aremostly into older rods but i wanted something a little different so after picking some brains and a lot of reading i started with taking a running truck further apart to hopefully end up with soething more fun to drive , head, done b cam in the mail , Bubba Gmc dist ordered , old stromberg downdraft and carb all set to go

yep .125 off the bottom, felpro 7013c should leave me with .038 above the piston

Are you running special pistons? Model A pistons (and most replacements) protrude approximately .031". The Felpro gasket should take you down to about .020" assuming the block hasn't been decked.

the gasket is .08 guy at the machine shop checked on a couple they had done and said crushed they came in at .068 so with that should have .037 clearance

You might tap around with a hammer on the formerly recessed area and listen for the sound. Your C head may have a relatively thin casting in that area and .125 inches off takes you deeper than the stock recess. I saw one like yours that held up for only a few days before a quarter-sized hunk fell out, punched a hole in the piston, and caused other collateral damage. I was amazed at how thin the casting was in that area.
