Head and Tail light bulbs

1- What are the bulbs used on a 1930 ford 2 bulb head lights, 6-volt system, no cowl or signal lights.

2- What is the tail\light bulb used also, same car same configuration?

Bulb number would be helpful. Thanks

The tail light is a single-filament 6 volt #63 bulb. It is essentially a 3 cp bulb. This is also the bulb that is used in parking lights and in the instrument panel light.

The stop light bulb is a separate single-filament bulb, 6 volt #1129. It is essentially a 21 cp bulb.

I don't know of a headlight bulb number. It also depends on what candlepower you want to use in the headlights. Stock bulbs were 20 or 21 cp (I forget which) on each beam, low and high. But then they started offering 32 cp on high beam, and either 21 or 32 on low. Then 50 cp high and 32 cp low. Etc.

Use 21 CP from the vendors. Ford offered 32 CP for highway driving, but 50 CP draws too much power for the generator to support.

Support our model A suppliers !!! Many choices for the different lights ! Prefocused LED headlights, easy on the generator, so you can see deer before you hit them ! LED stop and tail lights, again easy on the generator, brighter than dim original bulbs so hopefully you don’t get run over !!!

dac brighter and lower power consumption lighting are good operating features to have on your Model A. LED lights are a big improvement over the conventional incandescent lamps which also helps to improve your visibility to motorist.

Yes! I went with the LEDs shared by Paul Shin in his "LEDs Again" video. These are not the bright white LED and looks much closer to the original yellow lights.

This video CLEARLY demonstrates the difference in the various bulbs (standard vs. LED, and LED vs LEDs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDb0J1cJEp8

The pre-focused LED headlights now you can buy them in a warm white !! I haven’t tried them yet . Tail lights shop around and use the ones with the most little led’s , count them in the assembly , more is better and brighter !!

It's nice to know with proper headlights you can identify the object before you hit it Leaving less doubt in your mind which equals less stress!!!

The 50/32CP Headlight Bulb is part #1188

I'm not sure about the 50CP being drawing too much power. The new Generator Armatures are great for reliably delivering a constant 15 amps. I think those 1188 bulbs only draw about 4 amps each, so add in a few other lower-drawing bulbs and you are only around 13-15 amps. Set the Generator at 12 amps, and a 2-3 amp draw over an hour or two, will never be noticed.
