hasn't run in 7 years

The 29 roaster I plan to buy hasn't run in 7 years. Plan to drain radiator, oil and refill. Should I pull spark plugs and put oil in cylinders for day or two, then hand crank and start? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

You've got the basics.

Pull plugs. Add 1 tablespoon of ATF to each cylinder. Your goal is to get the ATF to the rings.

Yes, drain radiator...flush with water till clear. Fill.

drain oil. try to view bottom of pan for sludge. (If oil filler tube is loose like many are, pull it and inspect for internal sludge.) If any sludge detected drop pan and clean. also open valve cover a clean sludge from there also.

pull disrtibuter and pour 2 quarts of oil in disributer hole. Add remaining oil through fill to fill sump.
reinstall distributer. Hand rotate engine 2-3 times at this point.

Check timing. (Even if you 'know' it is correct. :p)

Fresh fuel should be considered after 7 years but i swear 4:1 compression will practically burn water. :D

Full charge on battery and installed with correct polarity.

Cross fingers and start.

There has been a series of posts on this before. The main things as i see them are to first pull the pan and the valve cover to make sure the sludge is cleaned out. Oil in the cylinders is not a bad idea or use something like marvel mystery oil turn over by hand to be sure everything is ok' clean out the varnish from the fuel system so that only clean gas is used when trying to start it. Don't start to replace anything if it doesn't start or run quite right, instead learn to trouble shoot and find the real problem before introducing new problems. The original parts are excellent and last forever it seems. Good luck and ask for help when you need it. Jack

Also, when you change the fluids run the car and if it is safe, go around the block a few times to circulate everything. Then drain it again and see what comes out. If nothing comes out then refill with clean oils and keep tuning her to the point you can driver her safely.

If you are pulling the pan, as I would do, also make sure the oil pump is clear, and the screen is free of bugs, and not blocked.
I would also clean the battery terminals, and the ground to the frame.
