Has gasoline prices changed YOUR plans yet?

I am waiting for the day the oil sjeek from a arab country is nocking on my door with a can off fuel in his hands and asked me if I was willing to buy some cheap oil from him.

My answer would then be :YES but only if you drink it on the spot.

Yes, we normally hook up the Jeep behind the motor home & head to Moab Utah for two weeks of Jeeping every spring. This year we decided to bag it because of the gas prices. We also go in Oct. & will go then whatever the price of gas. Haven't curtailed any Model A outing though. We may not go to the NW Regional meet this summer because of another trip planned but not because of the gas prices.

I live in Canada, I don't think anyone in the USA is in a position to worry about gas prices. Right now it is 130.7 per liter where i live, but the 57 Fairlane will still be cruising all summer. That equals out to be about 5$ per gallon.

Hmm. Gasoline up $1 a gallon. Does a few hundred $$ really change your plans or is it an over reaction?!

Yes I have cut back. It is just the principle of the situation. I think conservation in everything will enhance this world, to a degree.

I tend to separate the Model A from the daily driver as far as
altering my driving habits. On the modern car I tend to cut back.
However, the A is in the hobby category and I tend to put fuel
costs in that category. I've got the modern car down to about
35 miles per week!

alex,
Why do you think anyone in the USA "is not in a position" to worry about gas prices? because yours is "about" $5 per gallon? what:confused:

no gas prices in san fran bay area are around $4.17 a gallon....I like jumping in my truck around town without thinking about it....its costing bout 15. dallors more to fill up... just one less dinner out per month the way I look at it....but I don't enjoy reading that gas is .40 cents a gallon in Libya...that ain't right!

We are buying a house which is going to make my commute 90 miles a day and my wifes is just slightly less.

Since I'm looking at 1800 miles a month for me alone just for commuting I don't think small trips will matter much.

$50 to fill up my A and drive it -- or let it sit in the garage and spend $$$$ on tinkering.

I thought, its "the german way" to complain.....

Found this today :D

Yes I have changed my plans. I have cut way back on swap meets and car cruise inns and shows. I don't eat out, I wait till I have several places to go before making a drive to what ever area it may be. I look for a lot of free car things to do so the only cost would be fuel. Jobs have thinned out it my line of work so really watching my spending makes it possible to live on unemployment when need be. I just need to worry about keeping my hours so as not to lose my medical benefits, which I have come close to losing a few times. I was planing on retiring early but have had to put those plans on the shelf. But life is good I have my 2 daughters a roof over my head, my health and my model A's. Now if I could just find that rich sugar mama that likes old cars! :-)

I made high speed run to Denver yesterday and paid $3.49 - $3.67 per gallon. Problem was that it's 10% ethanol! Price of corn tortillas is already to high!

Coop sent me a letter advising me that they wil start filling my bulk tank with ethanol instead of straight gas as it is hard to get right now. Not exactly sure what I'm going to do about using ethanol. It's taking a great deal of restraint to not turn this post into a political rant!

The price is not going to deter me from taking trips, cruising or using my RV.

The pure relaxation of gettin out for a drive is worth more than the hike in gas prices. I will cut back on something else before I give up my four wheel therapy!

I still buy $20.00 a week no matter what the price is.

Just kidding.

You would think the dip sticks in Washington would figure out the Problem. The only wealth this nation or any nation has is natural resources. The US has enough oil to supply the world for 2000 years at the present consumption rate. We are letting other countries control our economy but we are politically correct. Ethonal is a joke. Manufacturing Ethanol consumes more energy than it produces and raises the price of food and propane. 90% of the propane produced is used to make fertilizer. The price of Ethonal is about $22 a galion when you consider the subsidies, the food prices and the goverment employes. We are headed in the wrong direction.

No I don't intend to change plans, as if I had any..:)

I commute about 110+ miles daily to work, fortunately there are about 10 of us that vanpool most of the time so it helps a lot. Fillin' up the F150 the other day at $3.85 a gallon cost $118 - whew! Not something I want to do very often.

But as mentioned earlier, if I couldn't afford the car or operating expenses for it I wouldn't be as actively involved in the hobby.

That said, I understand how some folks' budgets simply don't allow them to spend the $$ on gas as much as they'd like to.

I hope we all can enjoy things as much as possible despite the rising costs.

actually i plan to go more places. i traded my 16' open trailer for this united 24' enclosed 10gvw and a small amount of cash.....

Yep , Went out of the Landscaping /Excavation business with my brother after 11 years,, 2 months ago.No one is building and how much are people willing to have the grass cut due to gas prices. Its not only the lawn mowers ,weed wackers and blowers but gas to get to and from places. Its a strain on my customers too with their budget. So i am out and back in the food business [which i was in for some 30 years].I was spending $40.00 a week back and forth to work , then $60.00 and now $80.00 .Now i must pick which shows i'll attend with my car n tow. A number of guy's who were driving out to the MARC meet in Cali. in June now is a wash. We figured $5000.00 round trip with our diesel truck and trailer. 8 days round trip ,5 days for the meet and food and room + board , you are looking at around $8,000 to attend the meet from the far east. Then a group of 5 were thinking of flying out???? Business sucks for all of us ,,so who knows.?????? Most of us are small business owner..If we worked for the FED's there would be no problem.
