hardly any break pedal

Hello, I took my dad's 1926 model t roadster pickup out for a spin, I noticed that the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, being a novice is this something that just needs adjustment, I do have my dad's service book and I have read up some on it , just wondering if someone could tell me how hard and how long a process it is to adjust.

Thanks in advance for any help

It is easy to adjust, but first you should take a close look at the band to make sure it has lining in place. Open the cover plate and use a strong light source to inspect and adjust while you can see the action.

J Franklin, thanks, will I be looking for missing lining or chunked out pieces, also if the lining is gone is it a big job to replace the lining, and is it something I will do in place.

For instructions on changing bands in your '26, see pages 136-138 in the manual. The book says you can do it through the inspection door, but doing the job may inspire you to recite some choice lines of military poetry. I'll include a picture of something to watch for when inspecting the bands.

Steve J. thanks for the help, I don't mind the hard work or the cussing as long as I know what I should be doing, my dad is 82 years old and will help but I try to keep him from a lot of tough labor all thought he will out work me any day still.

Thanks Neal in Iowa

MODEL T FIRST COMMANDMENT: REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION BEFORE REMOVING INSPECTION PLATE !!!

Yer gonna get a lot of input on this, so lets go through the pre-amble... Before doing anything beyond an adjustment, COUNT and stuff RAGS all around the internal. A dropped nut or washer is a fatal blow and will usually require pulling the motor and disassembling.
Other than the brake lining being worn out or unriveted like Steves pic, it gonna require an adjustment. Theres 3 inside the cover. Low , reverse, and the brake to the rear. The nut on the brake may only require 1/2 turn to give some pedal back. As you adjust it, feel the pedal; there wont be much there by hand until the bottom 1/3 of travel is met. If theres very little adjustment left, get out the mechanics' French dictionary. Youll be due for a band re-line. Get your dad a folding chair to sit and watch, because youll be in and out of both doors like a jack rabbit and ya sure don't wanna have to cuss out the old man for wanting to help. Pulling the seat bottom and steering wheel will help as well... youll see. ws
